Avi Lewis

Avi Lewis is a Canadian filmmaker, journalist, and political activist. Born on June 8, 1968, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he has made significant contributions to documentary filmmaking, focusing on social and political issues. Lewis gained international recognition for his documentary “The Take” (2004), which explores worker cooperatives in Argentina. He co-directed “Naomi Klein: The Shock Doctrine” (2009), based on Klein’s book about disaster capitalism. In 2015, he directed “This Changes Everything,” examining the connection between climate change and economic systems. Lewis has also worked as a cinematographer and researcher. He contributed to projects like “Astra Taylor: Examined Life” (2008) and “The Corporation” (2003), critically examining corporate power. In 2019, he directed “This Is Not a Movie,” profiling journalist Robert Fisk. Lewis served as an interviewer for “The U.S. vs. John Lennon” (2006), exploring Lennon’s activism.
